Mercy*

Anyone that knows me at all knows that I have a HUGE heart when it comes to animals.  So it was no surprise when I came across this sweet girl that I felt the need to help.

A little over three weeks ago I stopped at a local gas station.  As I was walking in, I kept hearing a meow coming from the general direction of a redbox rental kiosk.  There was a kid in front of it and I thought he was making the sounds.  I walked away thinking umm ok??

I came back out to find the kid was gone, but the sounds were even louder.  I walk over to find this sweet girl hiding behind the kiosk with absolute fear in her eyes.  I kneeled down to try to help her, but couldn't reach.  I said "here kitty, kitty" a few times and she came right up to me.  She let me pet her head a little while before allowing me to pick her up to get her out of there.

I took her inside to see if any of the employees knew who she might belong to and they said she had been back there for a few days, but no one had come to try to find her.

She had a pink, polka dot collar and had the softest fur I'd ever felt.  She was definitely not just some stray that had been running around.  I figured perhaps someone may have lost her while traveling.  Maybe they had stopped for gas and she got out without them knowing.

I took her home just knowing in my heart that she would have a chip, since she obviously had been well taken care of.  The next day I took her to the local animal clinic and to my surprise she didn't have one, and they hadn't had any calls about any one missing her either.  I also took her to another clinic and the shelter, just hoping someone may have called about her.  I posted pictures and her story on my facebook account, my husband's, and the local town's.  No such luck.

She's sweet, the dogs tolerate her, and she mostly just keeps to herself.  Neither of us are too excited about having to deal with a litter box though, and this little lady is definitely not an outdoor cat.  I just don't want to take her to a shelter.  I know that's what it's there for, but I wanted to help her.  I hate to see good animals put down because of  lack of care from humans.

So until we find her a good home, we'll "foster" the little lady, who we've now named Mercy (since I had mercy on her that day).  Even though it's kind of a burden at the moment, I feel good knowing I gave her a chance.
