Bountiful Baskets

I'm a sucker for a good deal and tend to be a pretty frugal shopper, so when my SIL told me about Bountiful Baskets, I was definitely intrigued.

Basically it's a food co-op where individuals pool their money to buy fresh produce.  There aren't any employees; everything is brought together by a group of volunteers, which allows for rock bottom prices on healthy items.  For $15 a basic basket will you get a 50/50 assortment of fresh fruit and vegetables.  There are also extra items available such as artisan bread and seasonal cases of fruits and vegetables.  Organic produce is also available at selected sites.

The contribution is $15 per basic produce basket. The organic upgrade is $10 for a total of $25. Add-ons are available and the cost varies depending on the item. The first time you order a basket, you will be accessed a $3 processing fee. Thereafter, the processing fee goes down to $1.50 each time you contribute. Your entire contribution is spent on food, so the $1.50 is necessary to cover card processing, servers and other expenses.

The actual content for the week varies, but from what I've read it's always a good variety healthy items.  I'm hoping it will give me the opportunity to try new items that I wouldn't normally pick up on a regular grocery trip.  Even if there are a few items that come along that I'm not too crazy about, this should help end the constant question of "what's for dinner?".  At least on the produce side of the plate...

Distribution for my little corner of the world is every other Saturday.  Upon arrival, all produce items are split up into laundry baskets that remain on site for future drop-offs.  It is a requirement that you bring your own bag/basket/sack to take your food home with you.  I understand it is possible to find an area that offers weekly distribution.  Check out the website and start saving!

A Weekend With Ayanna, Jackson, & Mollie

This weekend was one of the best ones we've had this year.  We've known we were going to be keeping Jackson and Mollie this weekend for a few months now.  It had been a few months since I had seen Ayanna, so I thought this would be the perfect weekend to have her come stay with us too.

Thursday -
Annie came to work with me after lunch so I wouldn't have to drive all the way back into town before I took off to Levelland to pick up Ayanna.  I brought my Mama some cupcakes, since I didn't get to see her on Mother's Day the previous weekend.  Ayanna had softball practice with her summer league and her last game with the other league that night.  I was glad to finally get to see her play, I hadn't been able to make a game yet!  Soon after her game was over, we loaded up and headed back home for her to spend the weekend with us.

Friday -
Graham had to work so Ayanna and I slept in a little bit.  We met him for lunch and then went to Walmart to pick up some snacks and crafts to get us through the weekend.  We picked up Mollie from her Nana's around 4 that afternoon.  Jackson had a birthday party he went to before he came out to the house that night.

Saturday -
Tig decided the kiddos needed to get up around 7:45 so they came into the kitchen while I cooked up some breakfast.  French toast, bacon, and eggs... yum-freakin'-yum!  The weather was supposed to be like crazy windy (as always), so I picked out a few crafts for us to do since they would pretty much be stuck inside.  They each painted birdhouses, made a birdseed wreath (via Pinterest), and colored a little canvas.  They also made these darling little sun catchers from little plastic beads we melted in the oven.  They turned out so cute!  I was like a little kid all proud of my 'Guy' one I created.  =)  While Mollie took a nap, Jacks and Ayanna played the latter toss game and ran through the sprinkler.  We also played some board games and the girls took a bubble bath.

Sunday -
Paul came to pick up Ayanna around noon, which was nice cause I didn't feel like taking her butt all the way back to Levelland!  Reg and Staci came for Jacks and Mollie a little later that afternoon.

We had an absolute blast, but to say we were worn out would be an understatement.  Soon after the kiddos were gone we laid down for a nap and woke up a good 3 hours later!  I always say that I want a big family when the time comes, but I'm not sure I could handle it.  We spent the rest of the evening cuddled up on the couch with Annie and caught the new 'North America' series on the Discovery Channel.    I'm definitely looking forward to another 3 day weekend for Memorial Day!

I LOVE karaoke.  Whether it's at home on my machine, with friends, or solo.  I'm always down.

1 Meaning Behind My Blog Name
Guy is my newly-married last name.  I wanted to do something like "The Life Of A Guy", "It's A Guy's Life", or something along those lines, but then I was worried that people (outside of fam/friends) would think I was a man or something.  LOL!  Anyone have any better ideas?

2 Facts About Me
I hate lakes and hate being on boats even more.  I'm not a water guy.
My best memories were growing up on the farm, riding in the tractors with my Granddad.

As a kid he would "plow" the carpet with his toy tractors and he would get down right pissed off if someone walked through and messed up his "fields".

1 Meaning Behind My Blog Name
He doesn't have a blog, but he did say he loves that I used his name in the title and that I make it a point to include posts about his family as well!

Seeeeeee, this was fun!  Right?!?  Oh and when I asked Graham these questions, I texted him and I included his answers in the order he texted them back.  He's a country boy for sure!
